Icing

Here’s the text to the listening from yesterday.

Enjoy!!

A Saab 340 was climbing through FL130 over the sea on one of its routine flights. Everything was normal as the plane was climbing. 5 minutes after the plane levelled off at FL180 the crew noticed that ice started to accumulate on the leading edges and other parts of the wings. They were able to remove the ice from the leading edges with the deicing boots, but the ice continued to accumulate on the other parts of the wing. As a precaution, the plane descended to FL100 and diverted to the nearest suitable airport.

Weather radar problem

Here’s the text to the listening from yesterday.

Enjoy!!

A Boeing 777, was flying from New York (USA) to Cairo (Egypt). While it was enroute over the Atlantic Ocean, there was a problem with the weather radar. The crew couldn’t use it to see the weather ahead of them. They decided to divert to Dublin because they knew there was bad weather ahead and it was too dangerous to continue without the radar. They landed 45 minutes later in Dublin airport and requested a maintenance check. Because of the expected delay, the passengers were disembarked and put up in a hotel for the night. Another plane arrived the next morning to continue the flight.

During the climb out from Los Angeles International Airport, the crew stopped the climb at 8,000 feet, because of vibrations in the plane.
