Structure: ‘make vs become’

Fly High English - Structure

This time in our structure help we talk about the difference between ‘make’ and ‘become’ as they relate to verbs which cause something to change or be different. They can be used to describe the same situations but aren’t used in the same way. Look at the diagram below to understand how they can be used correctly. Then try to make some examples yourself.

Audio answer: ‘Tragedy averted’

Here’s the text to the listening from yesterday.

Enjoy!!

An A320 was lined up and holding on runway 10. At the same time, a small general aviation plane was taxiing from the general aviation apron to take off and needed to cross runway 10 on its way there. The small plane was given confusing instructions and continued past the holding point to cross runway 10. At this time the A320 had been cleared to take off. As the plane rolled for takeoff, the tower controller saw the small general aviation plane move close to the runway and radioed it to stop immediately. The pilot stopped his small plane just on the edge of the runway and the A320 had to move to the right of the runway while rolling out, to avoid a crash. Fortunately the two planes didn’t collide but it was very dangerous situation and is being investigated.
